Four Coats I’ve Owned for 5+ Years

Continuing the vibes of last week’s post of Six Items I’ve Owned for 10+ Years, I am sharing four coats I’ve owned for 5+ years and still wear regularly.

When I made the note on my phone of the items I’ve owned for a long time, I noticed that coats, jackets, and shoes dominated the list. Which makes sense, right? They don’t get washed with the same kind of regularity as jeans, tops, dresses, etc. which definitely helps maintain the item. And unlike articles of clothing closer to your body, coats, jacket and shoes can sustain fluctuation of our weight.

Why is this an important key learning? Well, moving forward, investing in good quality shoes and well-constructed coats and jackets is the way to go, and when making the decision to purchase one of these items I can rest easier knowing it will most likely withstand many future closet cleanouts.

coat one

This leopard coat was an impulse buy from Target in 2017. I am broad-shouldered, so I got it altered to fit me better. The coat was under $45 and alternations were inexpensive in the small town we were living in at the time. It’s such a fun coat that has seen regular office days all the way to Shania Twain in Vegas.

WHY I LOVE IT: This coat is so over the top, or as I’ve started to say in 2022, UNHINGED. It’s fuzzy leopard. It’s a conversation piece, and I didn’t spend a ton on it.

coat two

This suede moto jacket was a Christmas gift from 2017. The texture of it is so amazing! Suede is not a material that is prevalent in my closet, and this jacket fills the void of a brown shorter jacket in my closet.

WHY I LOVE IT: The texture of this jacket adds interest to an outfit. Plus, this jacket is way warmer than it looks!

coat three

I purchased this J. Crew City Coat in 2016. It was my first real, adult coat. I’m from Texas, y’all! I didn’t really need one, and when I was living in Ohio no one told me about how important it was for coats to cover your butt.

WHY I LOVE IT: This was my first big girl nice coat. I remember buying it on Thanksgiving break of 2016 when I had recently moved in with Brian and we were engaged. It holds special memories. And for a peacoat, it is so streamlined.

coat four

So technically, this coat was a recent purchase, 2019, BUT it replaced an almost identical version from J. Crew that I had for almost 10 years. I had worn holes in my other utility jacket, so I felt like this one deserved an honorable mention on the list.

WHY I LOVE IT: Sometimes a denim jacket just doesn’t work for an outfit or I’m just not feeling it, and a utility jacket, IMO, is a great alternative. It’s lightweight, has a ton of pockets, and brings in my favorite color.

What item(s) have you had in your closet for a long time?

xx,

Linds
